Museveni’s Aide Nalweyiso Questions Why Her Best Artist Bobi Wine Is Banned From Performing In Uganda – Vows To Fight For Him
Lieutenant General Proscovia Nalweyiso, a high-ranking and influential officer within the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), has openly expressed her deep admiration for Bobi Wine’s musical talent. Despite the political tensions often surrounding his name, she made it clear that her respect for his artistry remains unaffected.
Speaking during an interview conducted by Adam Kungu on Radio 4, Lt. Gen. Nalweyiso shared her thoughts on the freedom of artistic expression in Uganda, especially in politically charged environments.
She emphasized that musicians, regardless of their political leanings or public image, should not be restricted from performing at national functions, particularly those hosted by President Yoweri Museveni.
She elaborated that artists are primarily invited to perform at National Resistance Movement (NRM) events for the purpose of entertaining attendees, and there should be no discrimination based on personal or political backgrounds. In that spirit, she mentioned that even Bobi Wine, despite being an opposition figure, ought to be embraced at such gatherings.
“Bobi Wine is not barred from performing at President Museveni’s events. He is permitted to because he, too, is an artist,” she told Radio 4, underscoring her belief that art should transcend political divisions.

She further revealed that the 2026 NUP Presidential Candidate is a good singer and her favourite artist.
“I have no idea why he is not invited to these events, if that is the case, because he is a good singer. He is my favourite artist.”
She denied knowledge of the reported ban against Bobi Wine performing in Uganda and pledged to inquire more about the circumstances around the supposed ban.
“I will try to find out why he is barred from holding a concert of his own and performing. There must be a reason. Is it that he holds concerts in the wrong venues? But if he held a microphone and sang at his rally, would they really arrest him?”
In conclusion, Lt. Gen. Proscovia Nalweyiso’s remarks highlight the importance of separating art from politics, especially in a country where both often collide. Her admiration for Bobi Wine’s music and her openness to seeing him perform at state events reflect a broader call for inclusivity and respect for artistic freedom. Whether or not political differences exist, talent and creativity should be celebrated without bias.

Her willingness to seek clarity on the reported performance ban shows a rare blend of honesty and leadership. It’s a reminder that dialogue, not division, is key to progress in Uganda’s cultural and political space.
