SAD!! Journalist Faces Arrest After Questioning President Museveni About Healthcare Crisis And Rot In Hospitals

A Ugandan journalist working with Galaxy TV, identified as David Mwesigwa, is facing arrest after courageously questioning President Yoweri Museveni during his nomination ceremony about the dire state of healthcare at Mukono Hospital. The incident has sparked nationwide debate on freedom of the press and government accountability.

During the live-broadcasted event after Museveni’s Nomination, Mwesigwa stood up and asked the president why Mukono Hospital, one of the key health facilities in central Uganda, lacked essential medical equipment and resources to support patients. The question, while direct, was widely praised by Ugandans on social media as a necessary act of journalism in the public interest.

However, in a move that has shocked many, Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja has reportedly ordered the arrest of Mwesigwa, accusing him of “embarrassing the presidency” and “disrupting a national event.”

Sources within government circles claim a warrant for his arrest has already been issued, though police have yet to publicly confirm the action.

Human rights advocates and press freedom organizations have condemned the government’s response.

“This is an outrageous attempt to silence truth-tellers,” said Sarah Kabuye, a spokesperson for the Uganda National Journalists Association.

“Asking the president about public health is not a crime. It is journalism. It is democracy.”

Mukono Hospital has long faced criticism for inadequate facilities, shortages of essential drugs, and understaffing. Locals report that patients often sleep on the floor due to lack of beds, and that critical equipment like oxygen cylinders and diagnostic machines are either outdated or unavailable.

Mwesigwa’s question, though brief, has reignited conversations about government spending priorities and the neglect of vital services like healthcare.

Despite growing calls for his release and protection, Mwesigwa’s current whereabouts remain unknown. His media house has not issued a statement, reportedly fearing government retaliation.

As the story develops, Ugandans are left questioning whether the government is more focused on preserving its image than addressing the real issues affecting its citizens.
