NUP Kalungu East MP hopeful Nkerettanyi throws post-Bobi Wine nomination bash
On Thursday evening youthful Kalungu East Member of Parliament contender Kiruluuta Yusuf Junior Nkerettanyi left the entire Lukaya town frozen after leading thousands of people to a mega celebration bash recognizing and appreciating the presidential nomination of H.E Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Robert alias Bobi Wine.
On Wednesday, Bobi Wine who is holding the NUP party flag was declared a fully registered presidential candidate to compete with the incumbent Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni of the ruling National resistance movement pary which has been in power for 40 years.
At exactly 16:00hrs of Thursday, Nkerettanyi led a grand procession through Lukaya town in company of hundreds of Boda Boda riders and motorists carrying gigantic banners and flags bearing National Unity Platform slogans. The crew left the entire town at a halt as several businesses were left at standstill with people joining Nkerettanyi to sign their endorsement for H.E Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Robert for president.

As the case is always with the police across the country, a police patrol truck full of heavily armed Field Force Unit officers raided Nkerettanyi’s procession and began firing teargas and live bullets to disperse the peaceful gathering. The prompted Nkerettanyi to prematurely end the event I fear that his supporters would be maimed, arrested and possibly killed during the scuffles.

Nkerettanyi later retreated to his Kabale Bugonzi residence where he addressed his supporters and urged them to remain composed and resilient as the protest vote agenda rages on.
“Just like our president H.E Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Robert said, we should remain focused and do all possible to end bad governance, endemic corruption and systemic unemployment and poverty,” he said.
Nkerettanyi, a towering youthful leader of the NUP party is ideally the preferred candidate for the people of Kalungu East who feel that the five year leadership term of the incumbent Francis Katabaazi has not turned out what they expected it to be. His absence from the constituency for the entire five years has not sunk well with the electorates. “He has been away for so long. We counted on him but he has failed us,” Kibirige Muhammad, a local vendor in Lukaya remarks. “I want to use this chance to appeal to the NUP to offer its card to Kiruluuta Yusuf Jr. He is not the incumbent MP but he has worked for the people,” added Nakirijja, a food vendor in Lukaya.
