NUP members petition against endorsement of Mukasa Aloysius
A group of National Unity Platform (NUP) members from Rubaga South Constituency has petitioned the party’s Elections Management Committee (EMC) and headquarters, objecting to the endorsement of Hon. Aloysius Mukasa as the party’s flag bearer for the upcoming parliamentary elections.
The petition, led by Mr. Kabaliisa Innocent, argues that Hon. Mukasa’s endorsement was orchestrated by the incumbent MP himself, who allegedly bribed NUP Rubaga South Councilors with campaign posters in exchange for their support.
“We find it unacceptable that these councilors would attempt to dictate the outcome of the ticket allocation process, especially given that six candidates, including Mr. Adam Mugga, Mr. Musinguzi, Mr. Nyanzi, Mrs. Nassolo Eugenia, and Mr. Lubega Reign, have expressed interest in contesting for the Rubaga South NUP ticket,” the petition reads.
The petitioners also cited Hon. Mukasa’s poor performance in Parliament, characterized by notable dormancy during the eleventh parliament, as a reason why he may not be the best candidate to represent the constituency.
“We believe it is in the best interest of the party and the people of Rubaga South to consider other candidates who are more active and committed to serving the constituency’s needs,” the petition states.
The petition requests the NUP Headquarters and EMC to uphold the independence of the ticket allocation process, take action against the councilors who attempted to unduly influence the EMC’s decision, and thoroughly assess Hon. Mukasa’s candidacy in light of his performance in Parliament.
The NUP Party President and Secretary General have been copied on the petition, and it remains to be seen how the party leadership will respond to the concerns raised by the petitioners.
