Shocking!! Why Suspected Killer Of The Entebbe Elderly Couple Was Set Free By Police

The brutal killing of 69-year-old David Mutaaga and his 62-year-old wife, Deborah Florence Mutaaga, has not only rocked the quiet town of Entebbe but also stirred a nationwide storm of grief, fear, and frustration. The high-profile double homicide has placed Uganda’s law enforcement agencies under the microscope and ignited a fiery standoff between the Uganda Police Force and the country’s leading media outlets.

During a tense and emotionally charged press conference held at the Police Headquarters in Naguru, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Kituuma Rusoke directed sharp criticism at *New Vision*, Uganda’s largest daily. Rusoke accused the publication of publishing “extreme” and “unfair” assertions regarding the police’s handling of the investigation.

The controversial article, published last Friday, painted the investigation as chaotic and ineffective, alleging that the police were playing a game of catch-and-release with suspects. The claim, which sparked widespread debate online and offline, was categorically rejected by Rusoke.

“The arrests that have been made are not random,” Rusoke emphasized. “They are grounded in actionable intelligence and specific leads uncovered through a meticulous, multi-agency probe.”

He clarified that although several individuals had been taken in for questioning, their release was not a result of police incompetence but rather a lack of sufficient evidence to charge them.

“Individuals taken in for questioning have been released only when there is no substantial evidence to pin them to the crime,” he stated.

Rusoke further warned that such misrepresentations in the media could jeopardize ongoing efforts to apprehend the true perpetrators, saying that portraying the investigation as a failure was not only misleading but also dangerous.

“The actual perpetrators remain at large, and efforts to apprehend them are ongoing,” he insisted.

He also described the double murder as one of the most horrific crimes of the year, underscoring the pressure that investigators are under.

In a significant escalation, Rusoke announced that the police have increased the reward for credible information leading to arrests in the case—from 50 million to 60 million shillings—following direct orders from the Director of Criminal Investigations. The move is seen as a desperate but determined effort to rally public support and bring the killers to justice.

“The public is a crucial partner in this investigation,” Rusoke said, urging anyone with relevant information to come forward. He promised that all informants would be guaranteed full protection and that any leads would be handled with the utmost confidentiality. “The search is far from over,” he added, with a stern warning to those responsible: time is running out.

The Mutaagas were killed during the night of July 6th at their residence in Lugonjo-Nakiwogo Cell, located in the Entebbe Municipality of Wakiso District. The attackers, who remain unidentified, reportedly infiltrated the home under cover of darkness before committing the heinous act. The couple had only recently returned to Uganda after years living abroad in Europe—a fact that has led to speculation about whether their return may have made them targets.

It was the couple’s shamba boy, Ronald Golooba, who first alerted police after noticing signs of a break-in. What initially appeared to be a robbery quickly evolved into a shocking case of premeditated murder, stunning both the local community and the nation at large.

The Mutaaga case has since dominated headlines, flooding social media timelines and triggering heated debates about crime, security, and police effectiveness in Uganda. In Entebbe, a town typically associated with tourism and tranquility, the murders have left a trail of fear and suspicion. Residents have called for tighter security and faster action from authorities, as fear of rising crime grips the area.

As the investigation intensifies, the public and press alike will be watching every move made by law enforcement. But in a case filled with questions and few answers, one thing is certain: until justice is served, the shadow cast by the Mutaaga murders will not lift anytime soon.
