Bobi Wine’s Brother Chairman Nyanzi Found Guilty Of Sexual Harassment by NUP’s Secret Disciplinary Committee

Bobi Wine’s Brother Chairman Nyanzi Found Guilty Of Sexual Harassment by NUP’s Secret Disciplinary Committee

Fred Nyanzi Ssentamu, the elder brother of National Unity Platform (NUP) president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has been found guilty of misconduct by a secret disciplinary committee established within the party.

This follows a high-level internal investigation into allegations of sexual harassment and electoral malpractice, which have rocked Uganda’s leading opposition party and triggered public demand for accountability.

The committee, formed quietly but with Bobi Wine’s full authorization, was tasked with probing mounting accusations—many of which emerged from female LC3 and LC5 councillors, as well as MP aspirants who contested under the NUP banner during the 2021 general elections.

Sources close to the committee revealed that multiple women came forward to testify against Nyanzi, detailing incidents of coercive sexual behavior and manipulation of internal party processes to favor certain candidates. The committee reportedly spent weeks gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses in a tightly controlled and confidential process.

Speaking during an earlier press briefing, Bobi Wine stressed that the party would not tolerate any form of abuse or corruption within its ranks. “We have received several complaints regarding sexual harassment and electoral malpractice within our party,” he said. “These are very serious allegations that we cannot take lightly. The National Unity Platform was founded on the principles of justice, equality, and good governance.”

While the names of the committee members have not been made public, insiders say it was composed of senior party figures with a reputation for impartiality and a strong understanding of legal ethics.

Their conclusion: Fred Nyanzi Ssentamu was found culpable of actions that violate the party’s core values and disciplinary code.

Bobi Wine, despite his close personal ties to Nyanzi, is said to have supported the committee’s decision, reaffirming his stance that no one is above party discipline—even family.

Disciplinary measures are expected to be announced soon, though there is speculation that they could include suspension or permanent expulsion from active party leadership roles.

This bold move is being seen by political observers as a major test—and demonstration—of NUP’s commitment to internal accountability and democratic integrity, especially as Uganda inches closer to its next electoral cycle.

As the party continues to grapple with its growing pains and the pressures of leadership, the handling of the Nyanzi case will likely set a precedent for how the NUP deals with future internal scandals. For many, it also serves as a message that the pursuit of justice within the party will not be compromised for loyalty or blood ties.

The NUP has urged anyone with additional information to come forward, promising confidentiality and protection for whistleblowers as it continues cleaning up its internal processes.
