NUP KCCA Speaker Zaharah Luyirika In Hot Soup Over Shs 8M Corruption Scandal

NUP KCCA Speaker Zaharah Luyirika In Hot Soup Over Shs 8M Corruption Scandal

Zaharah Luyirika’s bid for the Kampala Woman MP seat is crumbling under the weight of explosive corruption and nepotism allegations, rendering her a toxic liability for the National Unity Platform (NUP).

The Incumbent Speaker of KCCA stands accused of turning her office into a personal fiefdom, rife with cronyism and blatant disregard for public trust, effectively disqualifying her from holding any public office, let alone representing NUP.

Luyirika’s alleged actions paint a picture of a politician consumed by self-interest. Her office, sources reveal, is a breeding ground for nepotism, with key positions occupied by her relatives and close associates. This blatant disregard for meritocracy exposes her as a leader unfit to uphold the principles of fairness and integrity that NUP claims to champion.

The most damning accusation, however, stems from a whistleblower report submitted to the IGG. This report alleges that Luyirika orchestrated a scandalous sale of three KCCA vehicles for a pittance, a mere 8 million Ugandan shillings. This suspiciously low price reeks of corruption, suggesting a deliberate attempt to siphon public resources for personal gain.

The subsequent clandestine refurbishment of these vehicles, reportedly at a garage in Makindye, further implicates her in a scheme designed to defraud the public.

This alleged corruption dwarfs previous scandals, even those of the notorious former mayor Nasser Sebaggala. Luyirika’s actions, if proven, reveal a shocking level of arrogance and contempt for the law, making her a pariah in the eyes of any party that values integrity. Her alleged violation of the PPDA Act, which mandates transparent and open bidding for public assets, underscores her unsuitability for public office.

Adding to the stench of corruption is the allegation that Luyirika awarded a lucrative land grading tender to one of her close associates, further solidifying the perception of her as a leader who prioritizes personal gain over public service. This pattern of abuse of power makes her a dangerous liability for NUP, threatening to tarnish the party’s reputation.

The political landscape of KAMPALA is now a battleground, with Luyirika’s candidacy facing fierce opposition. The whistle blower, sensing blood in the water, is reportedly reveling in the IGG petition, viewing it as a decisive blow to Luyirika’s ambitions.

The upcoming 2026 elections present a daunting challenge for NUP. With the potential for a fractured vote and the NRM poised to consolidate its support, the party cannot afford to field a candidate tainted by such serious allegations. Luyirika’s corrupt practices have made her a political liability, capable of sinking the party’s chances in Kampala. She must not be allowed to represent the NUP.
