Top Story!! Bugisu NRM Youth Leaders Unite, Slam Sironko Leadership

In a significant development, the Bugisu NRM Youth Leaders have established a caucus aimed at uniting, lobbying, and mobilizing youths to advocate for their interests and benefits. This move comes in response to what is seen as growing disorganization and sectarianism within certain leadership circles of the ruling party in the Bugisu region.

According to Mr. Emma M. Bwayo, a Youth Councilor in Mbale, the newly formed caucus seeks to mobilize fellow youths, fight for political space, and broaden their reach. The caucus intends to bring together young people from across the region, harnessing their energy, creativity, and potential to drive positive change.

Following its establishment, the caucus elected a dynamic and diverse leadership team to steer its agenda. Nimrod Kakayi from Namisindwa district was elected chairperson, while Gilbert Mawarana from Manafwa district assumed the role of vice chairperson. These appointments position the caucus for effective leadership and broad representation.

Other key positions were filled by Mike Khayendekhe (Publicity Secretary) from Mbale district, Jossy Womboko (Spokesperson) from Bududa district, Pius Modde (General Secretary) from Mbale district, and Derrick Trapzium (Coordinator) from Bulambuli district.

Notably absent from the leadership team was any representative from Sironko district’s Haji Lumolo Mafabi-led NRM faction. This exclusion is seen as a response to alleged sectarian tendencies and accusations that the Sironko NRM leadership has been sidelining sitting leaders in favor of their own family members.

Given that youths constitute approximately 78% of the region’s electorate, the implications of this development for the upcoming parliamentary elections are substantial. The formation of the caucus signals a shift in youth engagement and may influence election outcomes, driven by a growing demand for inclusive and responsive leadership.

Hon. Minister Florence Nambozo Mayoga, Woman Member of Parliament for Sironko district, welcomed the formation of the Bugisu NRM Youth Leaders Caucus and acknowledged it as a force to be reckoned with.
