Just In!! Another Tragic Crash at Site of Rajiv Ruparelia’s Death Sparks Public Outcry
In a chilling repeat of a recent tragedy, a woman driving a Subaru Legacy (registration number UBQ 900J) crashed into the same concrete barriers that claimed the life of prominent businessman and rally driver Rajiv Ruparelia earlier this month. The latest incident, which occurred on Saturday night at the Busabala Flyover in Makindye-Ssabagabo, has reignited public anger over the government’s inaction on road safety.
Eyewitnesses confirmed that the car slammed into the exact barriers that led to Rajiv’s fatal crash. “It’s the same spot. Nothing has changed,” said one witness who rushed to the scene. “Why hasn’t the government fixed this?”
Emergency responders worked swiftly to rescue the woman from the wreckage. Although her condition remained unclear at the time of reporting, bystanders described the crash as extremely severe.
The incident has deepened concerns over road safety and government negligence. Many citizens are demanding answers and immediate intervention to prevent further loss of life. “There are no warning signs, no lights, no reflectors—nothing has been done since Rajiv’s death,” said a visibly frustrated boda boda rider.
Photos from the crash site show the damaged Subaru in nearly the same location where Rajiv died on May 3rd. Locals say the area has long been a dangerous blackspot, with numerous accidents over the years. Poor lighting, lack of clear signage, and dangerously placed barriers continue to plague the site.
Despite the repeated accidents and growing public concern, the Ministry of Works and Transport has yet to issue a statement on the latest crash.
Road safety advocates are now urging the government to act swiftly. Their demands include redesigning or removing the hazardous concrete blocks, improving lighting, and painting clearer road markings to enhance driver visibility.
Uganda is grappling with a surge in road fatalities, with more than 5,100 people killed in crashes so far in 2024. The recurring accidents at the Busabala Flyover serve as a stark reminder of the urgent need for infrastructure improvements and proactive road safety measures to save lives.
