New Details Leak On Deadly Crash That Claimed The Life Of Sudhir Ruparelia’s Only Son Rajiv Ruparelia

In the early hours of Saturday morning, May 3, 2025, a tragic accident at the Busabala Flyover in Makindye-Ssabagabo, Wakiso District, claimed the life of Mr. Rajiv Ruparelia—the only son of prominent businessman and property magnate, Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia.

According to the Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety, the fatal crash occurred at approximately 1:54 AM. Rajiv was driving a high-performance Nissan GTR, registration number UAT 638L, en route from Kajjansi to Munyonyo when the incident happened.

Preliminary reports indicate that the vehicle struck temporary pavement structures at the roundabout section of the flyover. Following the impact, Rajiv lost control of the car, which overturned and burst into flames. Tragically, he died on the spot. Emergency services responded swiftly, but their efforts came too late to save him.

While the exact cause of the crash remains unknown, authorities have launched a full investigation. Officials will examine factors such as road design, speed, and possible mechanical failure to determine what led to the fatal accident.

News of Rajiv’s sudden death has sent shockwaves across the country. Widely recognized for his entrepreneurial drive and leadership within the Ruparelia Group, Rajiv had established a respected presence in Uganda’s real estate, hospitality, and education sectors. As the heir to one of Uganda’s most influential business empires, his passing is a significant national loss.

SP Michael Kananura, spokesperson for the Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety, confirmed the death and offered official condolences. “We extend our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of the deceased. This is a tragic loss for the nation,” he stated.

At the time of this report, the Ruparelia family had not yet issued a public statement. However, tributes continue to pour in on social media from citizens, public officials, and business leaders expressing their grief and solidarity.

Further updates will be shared as investigations progress and more information becomes available.
