Anita Among’s Last Dance As Speaker; The Failure of the Regional Parliament Sessions Say It All – How Billions Were Stolen

As the 2021-26 tenure turns to its dead end, political pundits anticipate this to be the last tenure of Bukedea woman MP Anita Annet Among as the Speaker of Parliament.

This anticipation is not just premised on the international sanctions slapped on her by the Western powers in wake of the famous #UgandaParliamentExhibition online and public protests but also the loud silence of her 2024 costly idea of the regional parliament sessions.

The once almighty Anita Among was to hold another regional session in her political ally Mathias Mpuuga’s backyard in Masaka city but with just a few months left to the official closure of the sessions as the general elections edge close, it appears to be obvious that the UGX 2bn per session project suffered a stillbirth.

In the eyes of the public, regional parliament sessions were a waste of taxpayers money as no viable solutions would be offered to the locals of regions where parliament sat.

NUP and other credible opposition MPs distanced themselves from the wasteful venture. The sessions were only a show a of might and reduced to mere lodging as MPs would have a chance to feast on their concubines from distant places away from the noisy Kampala city.

But all this aside, the silence or the regional parliament sessions seem to be linked to intelligence reports that the old man from Rwakitura received as he was told it was Anita Among’s opportunity to mobilize for her future presidential ambitions with the amendment of the elections model to improvise a parliamentary system where MPs would vote.
