How Former Famous Buganda Katikiiro Walusimbi Vanished From The Public Eye – How His Life Got Messed

In September 2024, former Buganda Kingdom Prime Minister (Katikkiro) John Baptist Walusimbi faced significant financial and legal challenges due to an unpaid debt of UGX 305,350,000.

The debt originated on June 15, 2024, when Walusimbi secured a loan from city money lender Micheal Hadoke, agreeing to repay UGX 277,500,000, including interest, by July 15, 2024.Despite multiple reminders and legal notices, Walusimbi failed to fulfill this obligation.

Consequently, debt collectors acting on Hadoke’s behalf initiated proceedings to arrest Walusimbi and attach his property to recover the outstanding amount.

This financial turmoil marked a stark contrast to Walusimbi’s tenure as Katikkiro from 2008 to 2013.During his leadership, he navigated the kingdom through both prosperous and challenging times, including the tragic fire that destroyed the Kasubi Tombs in 2010.

Post-premiership, Walusimbi encountered financial difficulties, leading him to seek assistance from various quarters, including the State House, albeit unsuccessfully.

In 2021, his professional standing suffered another blow when he was removed from the Register of Engineers by the Ugandan Engineers Registration Board, effectively barring him from practicing as an engineer.

Following the debt scandal in 2024, Walusimbi retreated from public life, and his current whereabouts remain undisclosed.

This series of events underscores the precarious nature of financial stability, even among individuals who once held esteemed positions in society.
